The Verdict
Pick Watermark.ws for watermarking: a whole shoot, a product catalog or a folder of contracts in one batch, up to 5,000 files, on a phone as well as a computer, with nothing to install. Videos, GIFs, PDFs and Word documents go in the same batch with the same watermark, protect patterns cover the whole photo, and it can be called from code or from an AI assistant.
Lightroom is Adobe's photo editor, and its watermark is an export setting for photos. Lightroom Classic, on Windows and Mac, has a Watermark Editor for text and graphic watermarks; Lightroom, on computers and phones, has an Include Watermark option whose settings sync between them. Both come in the Lightroom plan.
Watermark.ws is free to use and never puts its own watermark on your files, on any plan; Premium, $9.99 a month or $48 a year, is for batches of up to 5,000 files.

A PDF stays a PDF, watermarked on every page on paid plans, and a .docx comes back as a .docx with the watermark in the page header.
Lightroom lists no document formats.
GIFs stay animated
Animated GIFs come back animated, with the watermark on every frame, in the same batch as photos and videos.
Lightroom does not list GIF among its formats.

Watermarks on the free plan
The free plan watermarks one file at a time with no daily limit, on any phone or computer, and never adds a watermark of ours.
Lightroom's free mobile app includes a watermark only with a paid subscription.
An API and an MCP connector
Watermark from your own code with the REST API, the command line or the PHP SDK, or let Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant do it through the MCP connector, with $1 of free credit.
